JOHN DAY: Grant School Dist. to provide meal pick-ups

The Governor’s Office has announced Statewide School Closure for students in Oregon from Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, March 31, 2020 due to the continued health threat posed by the Coronavirus.

Grant School District will close all schools for student instruction in compliance with the Governor’s announcement.

There will be a statewide conference call late this afternoon for all superintendents to receive accurate information from the Oregon Department of Education, the Oregon Health Authority and the Governor’s Office. Additional information will be sent out to parents.

The school closure will impact the end of the third quarter currently set for March 19th. We will adjust the end of the quarter by having school attendance on April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The new end of the quarter will be April 3rd.  Parent teacher conferences, originally scheduled for April 9th and 10th will be moved to April 16th and 17th.

Grant School District plans to serve our students a lunch and breakfast pickup option at remote sites, March 16-19th and March 30th and 31st.  The sites and times are outlined in the following chart.

Site Breakfast Lunch
Seneca Not provided 11:30
Humbolt 7:30 12:00
7th Street Complex 7:45 12: 20
Bowling Alley parking lot 7:50 12:25
Mount Vernon Park 8:20 12:20

Grant School District will take the opportunity to review our cleaning/disinfecting protocols as well as get all supplies in place for the anticipated return of students on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

I will continue to update our families, staff and community as further information is disseminated from State Authorities. Please look at our Facebook pages, Instagram, KJDY, and Blue Mountain Eagle.

In the meantime, these recommendations remain in place:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has suspended interscholastic practices and contests for sports and activities for all member schools effective today, March 13th through March 31st.  Effective immediately, all practices and contests for Grant Union Jr/Sr High School will be cancelled until the April 1st date.  Facilities for use (inside & outside) will be closed during this school closure.

Grant School District remains committed to the safety of all members of our community as we implement all recommended steps by our local health department and the Oregon Health Authority.

Thank you,

Bret Uptmor, Superintendent

Grant School District #3
