PRAIRIE CITY: Bomb scare on school property Thursday

Prairie City School District had a bit of a scare yesterday.

Superintendent Casey Hallgarth said around 1:15 pm, he received a phone call from Sheriff Glenn Palmer. He was contacted by a Prairie City patron that had found what looked like a pipe bomb when she was walking her son in a stroller around the track. Hallgarth met with Sheriff Palmer at the football field and the decision was made to call the bomb squad in from Pendleton.

School was dismissed and students were sent home. The all-clear was sent around 4:45 pm. Law enforcement informed Hallgarth later by telephone that it was not a device that could explode. Basketball games and events at Prairie City will commence as scheduled.
