Prairie City Mayor Jim Hamsher was in the studio recently to update folks on the sewer project in Prairie City. He said they’re really beginning to see a difference in the amount of material being pumped up to the city’s lagoons:
“One nice thing we’re seeing already with the sewer project; we’re working on the worst street, and what this sewer project did, really, is we camera’d all of the lines in town and identified sewage lines that had the biggest cracks. A lot of times, the sewage we’re pumping is just ground water.
By what we’re seeing right now in the measurements, we’re seeing a 20,000 gallon-per-day reduction in the amount of sewage we’re pumping.”
The mayor said the greater efficiency in the system will eventually translate into utility savings for Prairie City residents.
