Legislative Days get underway in Salem Monday as lawmakers prepare for the February session. Because it’s the even-year short session, senators are only allowed one bill. Sen. Bill Hansell (R-Athena) is introducing a measure that would aid a water project in western Umatilla County.
“It deals with a coordinated opportunity for the west end groundwater and irrigation project that we’ve been working on,” he said.
The project had support in Salem during the 2019 session but did not make it into the budget. At that time, it was a proposal put forth along with several others by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
“My plan is to take that request from the last session and make it into a bill specifically for the Umatilla Basin,” Hansell said.
