OREGON: Cutting down on absenteeism

Chronic absenteeism is considered a major contributing factor in students dropping out of school. The Oregon Department of Education has challenged education service districts to try to cut down on the number of students who are absent 10 percent or more of the school year.
The InterMountain Education Service District has been working with each of its school districts to reach out to students and families, diagnose and help change the circumstances that contribute to chronic absenteeism.
