Prairie City District Ranger, Ed Guzman, announced this morning that downed wood along National Forest Service (NFS) Road 13 is available to the public. The area is normally closed as it is part of the North Fork of the Malheur Wild and Scenic River.
“There are approximately 25 to 30 loads of firewood along NFS 13 on the northeast side of the road. Some of the wood will need to be cut down to meet the 8’ length requirement.” – Prairie City District Ranger, Ed Guzman.
The forest would like to remind those wishing to gather the wood, you must have a valid permit on hand. Do not block any roadways while gathering wood at any time on the forest. While cutting along NFS 13 please be aware of your surroundings at all time, be courteous to others traveling through the area.
Please be aware that decked wood in the Deardorff Rock Pit is set aside for a future timber sale. These logs are not part of the firewood available in the area.
