ONTARIO: Upgrades to Vale BLM’s airbase

Vale District BLM’s Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) Base has been upgraded to better serve wildland firefighting efforts locally, regionally and nationally.
A new service contract upgraded the existing retardant system and also includes full-time staffing for the new system.
A new blending unit pumps premixed retardant directly into waiting tankers, enabling them to reload and return to firelines more quickly. The old retardant mixing system required water and a retardant base to be mixed before it could be pumped.
This is the same type of system used by most larger air tanker bases in the wildland firefighting organization. In addition to its on-district aviation program, Vale BLM serves as a base for two SEATs in the national aviation system.
