HUNTINGTON: Campground is now open after a closure

HUNTINGTON: Campground is now open after a closure

Spring Rec Campground has reopened to the public after being closed temporarily to provide a base of operations for fire personnel to combat the Pole Fire near Huntington, Ore.

The day-use area remains open, although the boat dock is out of service after being removed in May when it was determined to be unsafe and irreparable.

Planning and permitting are underway to replace the dock and the concrete planking of the ramp as early as spring 2020. In the meantime, users should know there is no place to tie off and they will have to remove their boats after each use.

This site is located on the Snake River and is managed by the Baker Field Office of Vale BLM.

The campground portion of Spring Rec Site has been closed to the public so it can serve as a base of operations for wildfire resources combating the Pole Fire.

The day-use parking lot and boat ramp are still open to the public, however, please avoid this area if possible and drive with caution around firefighting traffic.
Steep and inaccessible terrain along with shifting winds is hampering containment efforts. Last night, the fire jumped containment lines and burned actively throughout the night. More resources are en-route.
The fire is burning in grass and brush. A short Type 3 Incident Management Team is assigned to the fire.
The Pole Fire incident started as 2 separate lightning fires in close proximity to one another in the early morning hours of August 5th. They are currently being managed as one incident.
