BAKER CITY: School District looking at a potential bond option

The Baker School Board this week approved the committee that will be looking at a potential bond for the district according to Superintendent Mark Witty. The committee will be working over the next few of months to vet ideas regarding a potential bond with hopes that they will have a recommendation to the board around November 1. Witty says this committee will be made of up eight to 12 individuals. Witty will be working with the board to get people onto that committee to get a better understanding of how people might view this bond package.
Witty says that with the previous bond proposal there was a number of things that were learned including that the community isn’t necessarily interested in new, Witty says at least that is the feedback he has consistently gotten back. Additional feedback includes a bond with a lower overall price and that would utilize the buildings that the district currently has and a lower term on the length of any bond.
Witty says that he is excited about the work and is eager to see where it will lead.
