GRANT COUNTY: Multiple fire starts caused by lightning

The Malheur National Forest received multiple lightning strikes across the forest Wednesday evening, sparking several fires.

According to Wildcad.net, John Day Interagency Dispatch Center has reported four fires from the recent storm.

A Forest Service release states that a Malheur Rappel Crew has been assigned to an incident in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Fires reported in the wilderness include one near Tamarack Creek and one near Skyline Trail. Another fire location is near Robert’s Creek. The Skyline and Robert’s Creek incidents were reportedly contained yesterday.

Crews will remain busy as they respond to reported fires as they are called in. To report a wildfire, call 911 or John Day Interagency Dispatch 575-1321.
