BAKER COUNTY: Fleeing the scene of a crash lands man in jail

An Athena man was arrested by members of the Baker City Police Department recently after he reportedly fled the scene on foot after crashing through a fence near milepost 45 along Highway 30. According to reports an extensive search of the area for the evening of the crash resulted in no arrest, however, the following morning Baker PD was able to locate the man, 47-year-old Mark Andres Johnston of Athena on charges of Fail to Perform Duties of Driver in Accident with Property Damage, Driving while Suspend or Revoked-Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief II. According to Oregon State Police, additional charges are pending. The Baker County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the crash scene and search for the driver.
