During our monthly visit with the Superintendent of the La Grande School District, George Mendoza, the increase of students at the La Grande Schools aren’t as high as first thought. At the beginning of the school year, the student population is near 2,370, down a bit from last school year. The enrollment has a huge influence when it comes to funding. The state provides $7,770 per student. Even though it is early in the year, Mendoza said, it’s possible the enrollment will increase later in the year.
