PENDLETON: Two stabbed Thursday morning

The following is a news release and timeline from Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts:

3:12 a.m., September 13, 2018, City/County Dispatch received a telephone report from St. Anthony Hospital staff concerning two juvenile males (ages 14 and 15) being dropped off in the emergency department with stab wounds. As officers were responding, a description of the vehicle that brought the juveniles to the hospital was provided.

3:15 a.m., the first officer arrived in the area of the hospital as the described “drop-off” vehicle was exiting the parking lot. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle; however, a low-speed pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued north to the 2300 block of SW Nye Av., Pendleton where the occupants of the pursued SUV jumped from the vehicle. The unmanned SUV crashed into a retaining wall and came to a rest shortly thereafter. Officer(s) immediately detained two of the four occupants, but the driver is still at large.

The fifteen-year-old stab victim was treated and released from the hospital. The fourteen-year-old was transported to Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, OR via ground ambulance because his injuries prohibited him from being flown. Detectives have identified and interviewed one adult and five juveniles who were reportedly present when the “stabbing” occurred.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred in the 2800 block of SW 28th Dr., Pendleton. Officers and detectives found evidence in the area that corroborates statements that describe the following:

The fourteen-year-old stab victim instigated a fight with a “twenty-something” White male who was hanging out in the aforementioned area.
Other juveniles present, joined into the “beat down” of the unknown adult male.
Sometimes amidst the fight, two of the juveniles were stabbed although a stabbing instrument was not seen.
The majority of person(s) present/involved in the altercation got into a vehicle owned by one of the witnesses and drove the stab victims to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing; therefore, no additional information will be released at this time. Persons having information concerning the identities of involved person(s), or details of the assault are encouraged to contact the Pendleton Police Department at 541-276-4411 or City/County Dispatch at 541-966-3650.
