Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) yesterday announced funding for the development and preservation of 796 affordable homes through the 2018 federal 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and HOME awards, which leverage local, state, and private investments.
This latest round of 13 awards brings OHCS to a record number of units in the development pipeline – a total of 7,800 affordable homes are in progress across the state. At an event announcing the funding, OHCS Director Margaret Salazar shared the state’s housing goals and progress through ongoing and future initiatives under the leadership of Governor Kate Brown.
“Oregon is facing unprecedented need across the housing spectrum, from homelessness to homeownership, and a severe shortage of affordable and available rental homes,” said OHCS Director Margaret Salazar. “These awards are bringing much-needed housing and services to communities large and small. We are excited to celebrate the collaboration behind the Cedar Grove award, creating stable homes for families, close to jobs and schools.”
Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle, Washington County Commissioner Greg Malinowksi, and Metro Council President Tom Hughes joined Salazar to celebrate one of the latest awards, to the Cedar Grove development. The $2 million award to Beaverton will provide 44 new affordable homes serving families in the Cedar Mill neighborhood.
Cedar Grove leverages federal, state, local, and private investment to serve families at a range of income levels. Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) is partnering with Washington County, the City of Beaverton, Metro, the Washington County Housing Authority, Community Action, and Community Housing Fund to provide new homes affordable to working families. In addition, 8 homes will be dedicated to serving formerly homeless families.
