While there have not been any cases of West Nile Virus reported in the Eastern Oregon area yet this year, there has been a mosquito trap in the Parma, Idaho area that has tested positive. As the temperatures continue to increase it is important to remember to remove all standing water from things such as rain gutters, buckets, bird baths and more. These things can quickly become an area where mosquitoes will lay eggs. When spending time outdoors, avoid being outright at dawn or dusk, when mosquitoes are most active. When possible wear long sleeves and long pants and make sure to use an insect repellant that contains DEET, picaridin, and oil of lemon eucalyptus.
